A photo of Jim Connolly at work

I graduated from the Manchester Met in 2000 having studied Illustration & Animation. I returned to my home city of Sheffield and spent the next 8 years working firstly for Can Studios and then for DESQ. During this time my side-line of drawing gig-posters, CD covers and t-shirt designs allowed me to develop my love of comic style illustration and slowly build my own style.

In 2010 I took the plunge and went fulltime freelance as an Illustrator. Since then I have worked on all manner of illustration jobs from beer pump designs, stage show projection graphics, digital murals, poster campaigns, sweet packaging, logos, t-shirt designs, Apps & online games. I have also created many art-prints.

I would describe my style as primary, fun and eye-catching but also edgy. I like my pictures to be full of movement with characters bursting out of borders and objects colliding with logos to keep it exciting. My passion lies with comic style work but I also relish working in many varied styles and learn from every commission I work on.

I currently live and work in Cheadle Hulme in Greater Manchester. I have a lovely wife called Melissa, a daughter called Roisin and a dog called Betty. I work mainly on a Cintiq 21UX with Manga Studio, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Flash but also with good old pencils and pens on a drawing board. I have plenty of experience of in-house work (scroll down for testimonials) as-well-as solo adventures.

As a hobby I co-run the Meat for the Beast podcast where I get to have a good geek out. Previously I have played in a few bands like The Friends of Batman.
